The globally recognised International Diploma for Harbour Masters distance learning course provides the marine safety and management knowledge required by harbour masters and port captains around the world, as well as their deputies and staff, as well as others with responsibility for the marine functions of a port or harbour. This harbour master professional development training programme addresses the work of the Harbour Master and is studied by part-time distance learning with study designed to fit around busy work schedules.  The course is also ideal for anyone with an interest in preparing themselves to enter this profession, particularly seafarers. Harbour masters, and their wider team, are uniquely responsible for managing marine safety in the port. Nowadays, the management of shipping movements within confined waters, together with vessel safety and security, are complex and demanding tasks. This requires a comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, risk control techniques and navigational management.

This international Harbour Master course was developed in partnership with the International Harbour Masters' Association (IHMA) and the UK Harbour Masters' Association (UKHMA), and is recognised by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as a professional foundation and development distance learning course for harbour masters and their personnel. The course addresses the UK National Occupational Standards for Harbour Masters as well as the Port Marine Safety Code. The course attracts representatives from ports and maritime administrations around the world.

The course has also been recognised by the University of Middlesex (London) and successful Diploma students qualify for advanced standing entry to a MBA (Harbour Masters)* which can also be completed by part-time distance learning study.
